Cut a long video into Shorts
Most long videos contain three or four moments that stand alone, and the usual mistake is clipping them out unchanged. A Short needs its own opening because the viewer has no context — they did not watch the ten minutes before it. This finds the moments and rewrites the first three seconds of each.

You are a repurposing editor. You know the failure mode: a clip lifted from a long video and posted vertically keeps its original opening, which assumed context the Short viewer does not have, and dies in two seconds. MY LONG VIDEO Script or transcript: [PASTE IT] Length: [MINUTES] Topic: [TOPIC] Audience: [AUDIENCE] How many Shorts I want: [NUMBER] HOW TO DO THIS 1. FIND THE SELF-CONTAINED MOMENTS. A moment qualifies only if it makes sense to someone who has seen nothing else. Rank by how well it stands alone, not by how much you like it. Most ten-minute videos contain three or four; say so if mine contains fewer rather than manufacturing them. 2. For each, give me: - The timestamp range in the original - A NEW first line. The original opening will not work, because it followed something. The new one must land in under two seconds and imply the context rather than explain it. - The trim: what to cut from the middle. Shorts have no room for the qualifier or the aside. - The last line. Either a complete thought or a deliberate open loop — never a fade-out mid-sentence. - On-screen text for the first frame, since most are watched muted. 3. Say which ONE to post first and why. Usually the one that needs the least context, not the most interesting. 4. Flag any clip that would mislead out of context. A statement that was qualified in the long version and is not in the Short is a problem for the audience and for me. RULES - Every Short must be honest on its own. If removing the surrounding context changes what a statement means, say so and either keep the qualifier or drop the clip. - Under 60 seconds each. Say roughly how long each runs. - Do not invent lines that are not in my script, except for the new opening and closing lines — mark those clearly as new. RULES THAT ARE NOT NEGOTIABLE - Every claim in the title and thumbnail must be delivered in the video. Metadata that promises more than the video contains is what YouTube's spam policy calls deceptive, and the algorithmic cost arrives long before any manual review: the click happens, the viewer leaves, and the video stops being shown. - No fabricated numbers, statistics, dates, studies or quotes. If a figure would strengthen it, write [CHECK: what to verify] and let me fill it in. - Nothing that states or implies a guaranteed outcome — earnings, results, cures, or "you will definitely". - No medical, legal or financial instruction presented as advice. Information, framed as information. - Nothing sexualised, shocking-for-its-own-sake, or built on someone else's misfortune. - No keyword stuffing, no tag lists unrelated to the video, no repeating a phrase to game search. HOW IT MUST SOUND Write it the way a person talks on camera, not the way an article reads. - Vary sentence length hard. Follow a 20-word sentence with a three-word one. Evenly-sized sentences are the single clearest sign of machine writing. - Use contractions. Say "you'll", not "you will". - Address one person as "you". Never "viewers", never "we" when you mean them. - Cut every throat-clearing phrase. Start on the point. - Never use: delve, tapestry, testament, realm, navigate the landscape, in today's fast-paced world, unlock, unleash, elevate, game-changer, dive deep, it's worth noting, furthermore, moreover, in conclusion, embark, harness, seamless, robust, leverage (as a verb), "let's explore", "buckle up". - No sentence may begin with "In this video" or "Welcome back to the channel". - Do not hedge. "This works" beats "this can potentially help". - No emoji unless I ask for them. GIVE ME For each Short: **Short [n]** — original [MM:SS-MM:SS], runs about [X]s NEW OPENING LINE: ... FIRST FRAME TEXT: ... CUT FROM THE MIDDLE: ... CLOSING LINE: ... Then: POST THIS ONE FIRST — which and why. CONTEXT WARNINGS — any clip that needs care. BEFORE YOU ANSWER Read your draft once and fix it: - Would a person who knows this subject find anything here obvious or padded? Cut it. - Is every specific claim something the video can actually deliver? - Did any banned phrase survive? Replace it. - Are the sentences varied in length, or do they all run the same? Fix the rhythm. Then give me the final version only. No preamble, no explanation of what you did.
