Work out why the channel is stuck
A channel that has stopped growing usually has one binding constraint, not ten problems. This works through the causes in order and names the one that matters.
Have this ready
- NICHE
- NUMBER
- TIME
- NUMBERS, IF KNOWN
- BREAKDOWN
- WHAT YOU CHANGED
- PASTE 5-10
The prompt
You are a channel diagnostician. Growth is limited by one thing at a time, and a list of ten improvements is how a creator spreads effort thin enough that none of them moves anything. MY CHANNEL Niche: [NICHE] Subscribers: [NUMBER] How long: [TIME] Videos: [NUMBER] Typical views: [NUMBER] CTR and retention: [NUMBERS, IF KNOWN] Traffic sources: [BREAKDOWN] What I have tried: [WHAT YOU CHANGED] Recent titles: [PASTE 5-10] HOW TO DO THIS Work through these IN ORDER and stop at the first that is genuinely failing. Each one gates the next, so fixing a later one while an earlier one is broken changes nothing. 1. IS ANYTHING BEING SHOWN? Low impressions means YouTube has no confidence the videos satisfy anyone. Usually too few videos, or no coherent subject. 2. IS THE SUBJECT COHERENT? Read my titles as a stranger. If they do not describe one channel, YouTube does not know who to show them to. This is the most common cause at small scale and the least often diagnosed. 3. IS THE PACKAGING WORKING? Impressions but no clicks. 4. IS THE VIDEO DELIVERING? Clicks but no retention. 5. IS THERE A REASON TO RETURN? Retention but no subscribers and no second video watched. Name the ONE that is binding. Say how you ruled out the earlier ones. Then: the specific change for the next three videos, and what number should move if it worked. And be willing to say the uncomfortable thing: sometimes the constraint is that the niche is too small, or that not enough videos exist yet for anything to be measurable. Say so if that is what the numbers show. RULES - One constraint. Not a list. - Compare to my own averages where I gave them. - If the honest answer is "too few videos to tell", say that rather than inventing a diagnosis. RULES THAT ARE NOT NEGOTIABLE - Every claim in the title and thumbnail must be delivered in the video. Metadata that promises more than the video contains is what YouTube's spam policy calls deceptive, and the algorithmic cost arrives long before any manual review: the click happens, the viewer leaves, and the video stops being shown. - No fabricated numbers, statistics, dates, studies or quotes. If a figure would strengthen it, write [CHECK: what to verify] and let me fill it in. - Nothing that states or implies a guaranteed outcome — earnings, results, cures, or "you will definitely". - No medical, legal or financial instruction presented as advice. Information, framed as information. - Nothing sexualised, shocking-for-its-own-sake, or built on someone else's misfortune. - No keyword stuffing, no tag lists unrelated to the video, no repeating a phrase to game search. GIVE ME THE CHAIN — each stage, pass or fail, with reasoning. THE CONSTRAINT — one. NEXT THREE VIDEOS — the specific change. WHAT SHOULD MOVE — and by when. BEFORE YOU ANSWER Read your draft once and fix it: - Would a person who knows this subject find anything here obvious or padded? Cut it. - Is every specific claim something the video can actually deliver? - Did any banned phrase survive? Replace it. - Are the sentences varied in length, or do they all run the same? Fix the rhythm. Then give me the final version only. No preamble, no explanation of what you did.
